Happy Birthday Andi!

Posted Mon, 24 Jan 2005

Well tomorrow is Andi's birthday. I got her a 1945 Smith-Corona Sterling Silent Portable typewriter. The typewriter is fully restored and functional, and writes amazingly well considering it's history. It's the last model Smith-Corona produced at their factory in Syracuse, NY before closing down in 1945 to support the war effort. Imagine, a pre-war finely tuned piece of machinery in the art of communication. The history alone this piece must have seen is well worth the investment in an antique; but a fully restored and working tool -- complete with an original carrying case, and reproduction of the original manual -- it's a piece of art.

Many thanks to George at myTypewriter who helped me pick this model, and did an amazing job restoring this piece.
